This website provides analysis of presence and amount of covid in waste water. Since covid is mostly the spike protein, waste water can be analysed for presence and amount of this protein to determine general relative prevalence of the virus in the population. The virus, and the spike protein, are produced by infected individuals, and the level (amount) of the protein in the waste water should depend on the level of infection in the population.
Also of note, while being an artificial virus, covid is still mostly an influenza virus. As such, it competes and replaces other influenza variants. In other words, the annual (semi-annual) seasonal flu infections may become more and more covid, and less and less other influenza variants.

It appears that in 2025, we had a mild winter influenza season. However, it also appears that the 2024 winter influenza season was the hardest to date, in the reported period (from mid-2021, last 4 years).

This data is across all reporting sites. I have no way of further verifying this data, as I don't have access to any testing sites, and wastewaterscan appears to be the only site that publishes this data. (If you find a different source of the info on amont of covid in waste water - please let me know, or comment below.)
The fact that the latest season was mild gives me hope that the world is surviving covid, and our population is doing relatively well. Governments across the world stopped publishing, or severely altered, overall mortality data after the pandemic, and we no longer have access to the data which would tell us if people are dying more than average, and by how much. Reports of 2%-10% excess mortality were common in 2023, 2024, but this year I have no corroborating data.
Lastly, I want to bring the reader's attention that no matter what happens, it is his personal responsibility to stay healthy and be the best individual that he (or she) can be. Healthy diet and exercise, and making correct decisions and taking correct actions, should be practiced daily. While there is no universal healthy diet, it generally includes eating fresh - food that spoils. If food does not spoil, it may not be food. An ingredient that you cannot pronounce or do not have a jar of, may not be food. A food consisting of more than five ingredients may not be healthy. Generally, perishable fruits, fish, meats and animal products constitute a healthy diet. I wish the reader health and longevity, and staying desease-free.
