Researchers from the Vienna University of Technology have improved 3D printing technology using two-photon lithography, they have developed a process that allows you to form three-dimensional objects several orders of magnitude faster and smaller than existing analogues. The 3D printing process uses liquid resins that harden in the place where a laser beam is focused. The beam is coordinated using a system of moving mirrors, which allows you to manufacture parts from a solid polymer with an accuracy of up to hundreds of nanometers.

This new solution makes it possible to create complexly structured sculptures no larger than a grain of sand.
"Until now, this method has been used rather slowly," says Professor Jürgen Stampfl
from the Institute of Materials Science and Technology at the Vienna University of Technology. "Previously, printing speeds
were measured in millimetres per second – our device can work at up to five metres per second."



Scientists in Vienna are currently developing biocompatible resin formulations for medical use.
For example, a 3D printer can be used to create special "scaffolding" that ensures the correct formation of biological tissues during cell growth and reproduction, as well as for other biomedical technologies and nanotechnologies.
