In a magnanimous gesture hailed by state media as "an unprecedented act of mercy," Mr Trump has reportedly granted Mr Putin permission to observe a three-day ceasefire commemorating the Soviet victory in World War II.

The ceasefire, scheduled to coincide with Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, was announced after what insiders described as a "high-level discussion between the two leaders."

"President Trump understands history very well," said a Kremlin spokesperson while standing in front of a 40-foot banner reading THANK YOU DONALD.

Mr Trump reportedly praised the temporary halt in fighting as "a tremendous ceasefire, maybe the best ceasefire anybody’s ever seen," adding that "my colleague from across the pond definitely knew what I was doing."

Russian state television immediately aired documentaries explaining that the Battle of Stalingrad was won personally by Mr Trump in 1943, despite minor chronological objections raised by "foreign agents."

European leaders responded cautiously. One diplomat described the situation as "what happens when geopolitics becomes a Facebook comments section populated entirely by men with Cryptopunk profile pictures."
